Introducing
the Ipswich Martial Arts Dojo
Let me tell you how this dojo was born.
Sensei Ed Labrecque is originally from New England. Since
he was a young kid, he studied and sought all the different
Martial Arts styles. He found Uechi-Ryu karate in 1991.
He immediately noticed this style of karate was a most effective
method of self-defense. Through his practice over the years,
he developed keen awareness of mind, body, and spirit.
Ed decided that this great joy he had found should be shared
with as many people as possible.
After all his training, he received endorsements from his teacher,
Sensei Nancy Gavenda and the Head Master of the Uechi-Ryu Butokukai,
Buzz Durkin to open his own school.
Sensei Ed looked at many spaces over the years to find the perfect
place for a traditional dojo.
As a finished carpenter and contractor, and not satisfied with
the spaces available, he built his own dojo from scratch. Ripped
walls, placed the long wooden traditional dojo floor, and instilled
the ancient karate spirit in the place.
It took him over a year to finish his ideal dojo.
